RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN EQUALITY AND PERSONAL ACHIEVEMENT

In recent years, there has been growing interest in the relationship between equality and personal achievement. Some people believe that individuals can achieve more in egalitarian societies. Others believe that high levels of personal achievement are possible only if individuals are free to succeed or fail according to their individual merits.
What is your view of the relationship between equality and personal success?

Recently people raise an issue that human beings are able to meet with more considerable success in equal societies. Others would think, not a matter of equality, the important factor led to succeed in life is individual merit. I completely agree with the former argument.

On one hand, it is clear that individual merits play a significant role. Individually, each person is all responsible for his or her own living. Egalitarian society can solely create essential conditions for its citizens to maintain an average life. Naturally, it does not guarantee the same high-standard living for everyone. To reach great achievements, people necessarily pursue a plan and make endless efforts in long-term period. Best results are attainable for those who thirsty for innovation and passionate for excellence.
On the other hand, equality makes a significant contribution to the success of each member in the society. Firstly, education was not paid sufficient attention by law makers, causing that schools were not opened for the poor previously. Today’s compulsory education ensures that everyone, whether poor or rich, has opportunities to attend class. It, therefore, allows individuals to achieve more. Secondly, cultural revolutions crossing many countries, has brought more rights for women, enhancing their influence as considerably as men’s in the society. Both female and male employees nowadays make equal prospects in career ladder.
In conclusion, the relationship between personal success and society’s equality remains controversial. From my viewpoint, I believe that an egalitarian society drastically impact on the achievements of everyone.
