FORMAL EXAMINATION

      Do you think that formal written examinations are a good way to assess                          knowledge at school?

Evaluation methods of a student’s performance has always been an area of contention around the world. Many believe that this can be done by continual assessment of their assignments and project work. On the other hand, people are also in favour of formal examination.  I believe the latter is more appropriate option. This can be proved by analyzing the fact that the homework and projects done at home can be copied and also memory of a student can be tested in a formal test only.

First of all, there are many reasons that nowadays assessment done through formal written examination. Firstly, with the help of written examination teachers also check the ability of the students and give marks according to their performance. Moreover, students also write more idea through written exam because they have more time to write and explain things if they give speaking test they cannot speak well in front of any other person and loss their marks so written exam also helpful for the students. Apart from this, written examination also easy to check for the teachers because they collect the paper and check at any time and also check the performance of the students through written test but projects and assignment students cannot perform very well and most of the time they do cheating and show copied assignment of other student to their teachers.

In addition to this, in written examination students cannot do cheating from other students because there are also two or more teachers stand in one class room and all classes are under the invigilator. So, students do hard work for get good marks in every exam, if teachers give projects and assignments to the students as homework so they copy it from Internet and make all the assignment as it as and mostly students take help from their parents to complete any projects. As a result,they spoil their future because they have no knowledge about it.

To conclude, looking at the discussion it is clear that advantages of formal testing outweighs the advantages of testing by assignments and projects. I believe the method should be implied across the globe and it can be predicted that many countries will adopt this way of assessment because of its effectiveness.
